One of the anti-aging treatments I was most excited to bring to True Contour is the Sofwave Machine. This non-surgical skin tightening procedure delivers excellent results for reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and restoring a youthful look.
What is a Sofwave Machine Treatment? Some say Sofwave is the Rolls-Royce of skin tightening. It’s one of the latest advances in natural skin regeneration to boost your body’s own collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
This cutting-edge treatment developed by Sofwave requires no needles, no surgery, is FDA-cleared. You may have seen celebrities talking about it on social media or heard friends and family mention it.
But here, I’m giving you the expert clinician version on the benefits and how it works. Natural results that last up to a year? Does it hurt? And the ultimate question: Is Sofwave better than Ultherapy?
Why Choose Sofwave for Skin Rejuvenation?
You read that right: Sofwave is a non-invasive skin tightening procedure that can be done in less than an hour, and the results can last up to a year. That’s why I was excited when I announced we brought it to True Contour.
The Sofwave Machine Treatment stands out as one of the most advanced options for facial rejuvenation. It’s designed for people who want to lift, firm, and refresh their skin. No needles, no downtime.
Patients chose Sofwave because it’s completely non-invasive, with minimal discomfort and zero downtime. For the usual anti-aging concerns, we specially treat areas like the face and neck:
- Smoothing forehead lines and softening crow’s feet
- Lifting the eyebrows, cheeks, and jawline
- Tightening skin under the chin and along the neck
- Improving skin laxity on the lower face
- Reducing cellulite in targeted areas
But it’s not just for the face. Sofwave can also improve tone and volume in the arms, legs, thighs, belly, and buttocks. Basically, it’s an all-over body skin tightening treatment in one smart device.
Sounds great, right? But maybe you’re asking “why all the hype?” There are already plenty of non-invasive wrinkle reduction treatments like Ultherapy and Thermage.
Well, Sofwave brings new benefits for your skin. Let’s take a look.
What Makes Sofwave Different?
What makes Sofwave the new sensation in natural skin tightening? It all comes down to its advanced ultrasound technology; a safer, smarter improvement over older systems.
The team behind Sofwave has spent years studying collagen, and they found a better way to stimulate it: by targeting a precise layer in the upper dermis, around 1.5 to 2mm deep. Why is this important?
With Sofwave’s SUPERB™ technology, we can now apply controlled heat to that specific skin layer without overheating or damaging surrounding tissue. That makes it safer and more comfortable than other ultrasound skin tightening options.
Sofwave is also FDA-cleared to treat the full facial anti-aging package: Eyebrow lifting, submental area (under the chin), neck and jawline. It’s also approved for use on other areas like the arms and legs.
Sessions can take about 40 minutes for the face, and up to two hours for larger areas like legs or arms. But Sofwave doesn’t just reduce wrinkles and session time. It’s also more accessible in terms of cost than many other non-surgical facelift treatments.
How the Sofwave Machine Works
Sofwave™ is the most advanced evolution of what you might know as HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound). The principle is simple: when we gently heat the skin with ultrasound, it triggers a controlled response that stimulates collagen production. It’s like a micro-injury that jumpstarts your body’s natural healing process, renewing and tightening the tissue from within.
The Sofwave machine uses a specialized probe to deliver this energy safely and precisely. The heat stays close to the surface of the skin, and that’s why it is safer and heals faster. It all comes down to how this new machine works.
Sofwave uses next-generation SUPERB™ tech, which means Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam. The science behind it is that Sofwave sends ultrasound energy parallel to your collagen and elastin fibers, rather than directly into deeper tissue. That allows it to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid; keeping results effective and consistent, as clinical research shows.
As Sofwave works right in the upper dermis, this also means less risk of swelling, minimal discomfort and no damage to nerves, muscle, or fatty tissue.

Real Results: Sofwave Before and After
Patients often notice smoother, tighter skin right after their session. Full results usually appear around the 3-month mark, and can last for up to 12 months.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

The simplest way to explain a Sofwave session is to compare it to something you probably already know: a medical ultrasound. While they’re completely different procedures, they share a few similarities.
Just like with an ultrasound, the skin is prepped first. The difference is that we also apply a topical anesthetic cream to minimize any discomfort from the heat.
Once the skin is numb, we apply a cooling gel to protect the surface. Then we use the Sofwave probe to deliver controlled ultrasound heat to the area. Each pulse lasts about five seconds, just enough to kickstart your skin’s collagen-boosting response.
One of the biggest questions we get is: “Does Sofwave hurt?” Actually, not at all. Most patients say it feels like a warm touch, similar to a hot pen or mild heat sensation. Even those with low pain tolerance typically find it manageable.
If you’re still concerned, don’t worry. With Sofwave, we can easily adjust the temperature and timing based on your comfort. You’ll also be able to let us know at any point if something feels too warm.
Once the session is complete, we clean off the gel. And just like that, you’re done.
A full Sofwave facial rejuvenation treatment takes around 40 minutes. You’ll often notice fewer lines and smoother skin immediately, along with some mild redness or swelling that fades within a few hours. Since Sofwave doesn’t damage the skin surface, side effects are minimal and short-lived.
Post-care for Sofwave is really simple: Wear sunscreen, especially if you’re heading outdoors or to the beach. Stay hydrated, and we usually offer some quick nutrition tips to help support healthy collagen production.
Is Sofwave Right for You?
Another thing I love about Sofwave is that it’s collagen building for everybody. It’s safe for all skin types and pigmentations. Some fair-skinned patients may notice a bit more redness right after the treatment, but that fades quickly.
Rather than skin type, age tends to play a bigger role in Sofwave results.
Younger patients—especially those in their 30s—often come in looking for a refresh or to stay ahead of aging. Thanks to better baseline skin elasticity, they usually see faster and more noticeable results.
For patients in their 50s or 60s, skin laxity is often more pronounced, so it might take longer for results to fully develop. But here’s the good news: a second session within the same year is completely safe.
At True Contour, we closely monitor your progress and tailor your treatment plan. If we believe another round will boost your lift and tone, we’ll schedule it—as long as it’s at least three months after your first session.
Sofwave vs. Ultherapy
Focused ultrasound technology has been used in aesthetic treatments since 2009. Among popular options like Ultherapy, Sofwave™ is the newest to receive FDA clearance.
Both Sofwave and Ultherapy use microfocused ultrasound to stimulate collagen, are non-surgical, needle-free, and come with zero downtime. But when it comes to comfort, treatment time, and overall results, Sofwave is definitely better. Here is why:
Ultherapy™ targets a deeper tissue layer, the same one a surgeon reaches during a traditional facelift. It’s better suited for advanced skin sagging, but it’s also more painful, and some patients require nerve-blocking injections along with topical anesthesia.
Ultherapy™ also costs significantly more.
On the other hand, Sofwave™ works at a more superficial level—typically around 1.5–2mm, right where collagen is most abundant. This helps turn crepey skin into firmer, more elastic skin with a shorter, less painful session.
So, less time, less discomfort and nearly half the cost of Ultherapy. Now you know why I wanted so much to bring Sofwave to True Contour.
