If there’s one thing that always sets the internet on fire, it’s facial cosmetic surgery. Just last week, Kris Jenner made a surprise appearance in Paris and, well, speculation started flying: neck lipo? Facelift? Chin implants? All that together?
But here we are going to cut through the gossip and get into real scientific knowledge. I want to zoom in on one specific procedure that’s making big waves: neck liposuction.
We already covered the ins and outs of chin and jawline contouring as a hot trend in today’s selfie-driven world. Well, this guide to neck liposuction feels like part two. Here we’ll explain why people choose neck contouring, how it works in tandem with skin-tightening techniques, and why neck liposuction recovery is relatively short.
What is Neck Liposuction?
Neck liposuction is a facial cosmetic procedure that removes stubborn fat from the neck area. It’s often combined with chin liposuction to target what most people call the double chin zone. But we cosmetic surgeons refer to it as neck contouring, because that’s what it truly is: reshaping and refining the neck and jawline.
Like other forms of liposuction, neck lipo is usually performed by making two or three very small incisions. For submental fat reduction, we usually make these just beneath the ears and under the chin. Through these entry points, a thin cannula is used to gently suction out the fat.
The procedure is minimally invasive and done under local anesthesia. That’s also why most patients experience a relatively quick recovery. Downtime is short, and full results typically settle in within 2 to 3 months, as we’ll see later in our case study.
Because of this, neck liposuction is considered a safe and effective method for facial rejuvenation. In fact, clinical studies show that recontouring of the neck achieves good to excellent results in over 90% of cases.
Of course, results like that come from experience. That’s why it’s important to work with qualified experts, like our team here at True Contour Medical.
So let’s talk about why that happens and who’s a good candidate for neck liposuction.
Benefits of Neck Liposuction
If I had to mention the most common reason people come in asking about neck liposuction, it’s the double chin. Yes, it’s that little pocket under the chin that just doesn’t go away, many people find it incredibly frustrating.
The main benefit of neck liposuction is that it targets that exact area: the neck and lower part of the face. It’s really a very effective procedure to achieve a sculpted jawline in a short amount of time.
But there are as many cases as there are patients. Neck liposuction offers real benefits for those dealing with turkey neck, sagging skin, or visible jowls, those typical signs of aging or stubborn fat on the submental area.
The face naturally draws attention, it’s the first thing people can tell. Just like we mentioned with Kris Jenner: these kinds of improvements are real, and they are noticeable at first glance.
Liposuction is primarily a fat removal technique, that’s true. But what I want to emphasize is how we turn it into a true neck sculpting procedure. Especially when combined with skin-tightening treatments, the results go beyond fat removal—they deliver a smoother, firmer, more youthful appearance.
Who is a Good Candidate for Neck Liposuction?
There are usually two situations why people choose neck liposuction:
First, there’s the frustration of stubborn fat that just won’t go away; no matter how clean the diet is or how hard they train at the gym. Some people are incredibly fit, but still can’t slim down the neck area.
Why does this happen? It’s because submental fat—the layer under the chin and along the neck—is often genetic. You are simply born with it. The good news is: neck liposuction is a real solution.
The second reason people consider neck liposuction is the natural aging process. As we get older, our skin loses elasticity and begins to sag. Even people who have never struggled with neck fat may start to notice loose skin, banding, or a softening jawline over time.
With neck liposuction, we reduce that subcutaneous fat layer, allowing the skin to re-drape and follow your new contours.
If the patient has good skin laxity—typically younger individuals or those with naturally firm skin—the skin contracts on its own and adapts beautifully. For patients in their 50s or 60s, combining liposuction with skin-tightening treatments helps achieve that smooth, sculpted finish we are aiming for.
No matter the cause, the goal is always the same: a more defined jawline, smoother neck contours, and a sleeker, more confident profile. What changes is how we get there, whether it’s just fat removal or a combined approach with skin tightening.
And let’s be clear: a chunky neck isn’t just something that affects people who are overweight. In fact, many of our patients are in great shape and live healthy lifestyles.
So what makes someone a good candidate for neck liposuction? Everything we just covered. Now let’s walk through what the actual procedure looks like.
The Procedure & Recovery Process

Neck liposuction is one of the simplest liposuction procedures we perform. It takes about 30 minutes under local anesthesia, and the recovery is usually fast.
But how does it all start? The first step is a consultation, where we go over your goals, review your medical history, and decide together if neck liposuction is the right path for you. During this visit, we’ll also explain everything you need to know: how to prepare, what to expect, and how to take care of your results afterward.
On the day of the procedure, you’ll come into the office, and we’ll begin by marking the areas to be treated. Once you are in the procedure room, we inject a tumescent solution to numb the area. This means we keep you comfortable, relaxed, and fully awake the whole time.
The procedure requires just three tiny incisions, about 2 millimeters each—one under the chin and two behind the ears. This allows us to insert the cannula from earlobe to earlobe and remove fat smoothly and evenly.
And don’t worry about scars. For neck liposuction, we hide incisions so well that no one ever notices.
At True Contour, we use Liposucción VASER, which applies ultrasound energy to gently melt the fat before removal. This technique allows us to sculpt with precision, especially in delicate areas like the neck and chin.
VASER also stimulates collagen and elastin. Working at around 42 to 43°C, that heat causes the skin to tighten during the process, giving you sharper definition and firmer, smoother results.
What about after the procedure? As we always tell our patients, aftercare is just as important as the procedure itself.
You’ll wear a chin strap for the first 4 to 5 days to support healing and enhance contouring. After that, most people are back to their normal routine; heading to work, going out, and enjoying life again.
Swelling and bruising are completely normal and usually resolve within two weeks. By week four, most patients are already seeing the full benefits—a more sculpted neck and jawline with minimal downtime in between.
Neck Liposuction Case Study
It’s time now to move past theory and talk about real results.
A few months ago, we had a female patient come to True Contour. She was feeling insecure about her neck, specifically the stubborn fat that was affecting her confidence and making her feel bad about she looked.
After her consultation, we performed neck liposuction combined with Renuvion skin tightening to target the fat and tighten the skin around her chin and neck. The result? A noticeable improvement in her contour, almost immediately.
That’s what happened on the outside. But what really matters is how she felt on the inside.
Today, our patient wears what she wants, takes photos with confidence, and walks into rooms without hesitation. You can watch her full testimonial on our Instagram Reel here. It’s in Spanish (oh, did we mention our bilingual staff?), but here’s what she shared in English:
“Hi, I’m Yasenia, a patient of Dr. G. The change I have experienced has been dramatic. I used to feel very insecure—like I had too much fat around my face, no neck, and that my cheekbones didn’t stand out.
But now, I can wear the clothes I actually like and feel confident. I think it’s the best decision I have ever made. I really love how I look. You can already see the results right after surgery.”
Is Neck Liposuction Worth It?
For our patient, the answer was a solid yes. She came in feeling unsure, and left feeling empowered. And we are grateful to have been part of that journey.
But in the end, whether neck liposuction is worth it depends on your unique case. Every face is different, and everyone has their own story.
What we can say for sure is that here at True Contour, you’ll find expert hands and the most advanced equipment available. You deserve the best results, with the safest techniques. At our clinic here in Scottdale we work for that every single day.
